The Role of an

End-Of-Life Doula

An end-of-life doula provides personalized, non-medical support to individuals and families navigating the end-of-life journey. While our healthcare system provides essential clinical care, the needs of individuals and their loved ones often extend beyond what the medical system can provide. An end-of-life doula can help bridge that gap.

My approach is deeply tailored to each individual and family, recognizing that each end-of-life experience is different, and needs may change along the way. I work collaboratively with families and healthcare professionals, complementing the care already being provided. My role is to support the human experience that surrounds this journey, so individuals and families feel less alone.

My path to end-of-life care has been shaped by a deep reverence and understanding of grief and the importance of support in difficult times. After the sudden loss of my daughter in 2018 I have felt a calling to this sacred work. I started with a blog, writing about grief and navigating motherhood simultaneously.

During COVID I took the 12 week course to be a hospice volunteer and jumped into all the opportunities once we were given clearance. On top of volunteering on the palliative floor, I personally created and facilitated an infant and pregnancy loss support group, meeting weekly for several years. Hospice work sparked a love for end-of-life care.

Although it's been a difficult journey, this work has been the most fulfilling thing I've done! After 6 years of volunteering at Abbotsford hospice, I began my education in end-of-life care. I've learned how deeply people need to be truly seen & tenderly held, supported beyond clinical care.

Outside of this work, I reside in Abbotsford with my husband and three daughters. I feel most alive in the outdoors, I love animals, being near the water, taking family bike rides, skiing, traveling and cooking.
